Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Tarek el Moulla said natural gas plays an important role as a clean energy source in achieving the United Nations sustainable development goals (SDGs) and meeting the growing global needs of energy.

Moulla made the comments in Egypt's speech that he delivered at 7th Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) in Algeria, according to a statement released by the Petroleum Ministry on Friday 01/03/2024.

The minister highlighted the GECF significant contribution to facilitating gradual energy transition and emissions reduction, saying that the forum represents a key platform for dialogue on the natural gas industry.

He underlined the importance of keeping joint action to bring about the SDGs in conjunction with securing energy sources that the world needs to drive progress and prosperity.

Moulla also shed light on the progress witnessed by the energy sector in Egypt, asserting that the Egyptian government will pursue economic reforms, while working to improve the investment climate, increase the private sector's contribution to the national economy, accelerate transition to green energy and establish new and renewable energy projects.
