United Energy Egypt Wins Operational Excellence Award for Its 5,300 Tonne Decarbonization Initiative

Published on : 2025-12-11

Cairo, Egypt — [11 December] — United Energy Egypt (UEE) is proud to announce that it has been awarded the EOGOperational Excellence Award for its groundbreaking project, “The 5,300-Tonne Solution: Decarbonizing Power Generation at Area A Field.” The award recognizes UEE’s leadership in delivering a transformative, high-impact energy transition across one of its major producing fields.

The winning project marks a major milestone in Egypt’s journey toward a cleaner, more efficient energy future. UEE successfully implemented a comprehensive modernization programme at the Area A field—operated for GPC—replacing an entire fleet of more than 25 diesel generators with an innovative hybrid power model integrating gas-fired generation and the national electrical grid.

This strategic initiative not only revolutionized operational performance but also set a new regional benchmark for brownfield modernization and sustainable energy solutions.

Through the elimination of more than 2 million litres of dieselconsumption annually, the project delivers substantial cost savings, reduces maintenance requirements, and significantly enhances operational stability. Most notably, it achieves an annual reduction of approximately 5,300 tonnes of CO₂e, demonstrating measurable environmental progress aligned with both national and global sustainability targets.

The initiative also yields important safety and environmental benefits by eliminating local air pollutants and enhancing on-site working conditions for field personnel.

“This award is a testament to the dedication and ingenuity of our teams,” said Kamel Al Sawi Regional President Africa. “Our commitment to operational excellence goes hand in hand with our vision for a more sustainable energy sector. The success of this project reflects our belief that environmental stewardship and strong operational performance can—and must—move forward together.”

The recognized project provides a repeatable model for advancing energy efficiency and decarbonization across similar assets in Egypt and beyond, supporting the country’s ambition to become a regional energy hub driven by innovation and responsible growth.
