As part of the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources’ strategic efforts to increase production and secure Egypt’s energy needs, H.E. Eng. Karim Badawi, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, conducted an extensive field visit to inspect the readiness of the FSRUs “Energos Eskimo” and “Energos Power” at Ain Sokhna and Sonker Terminals.
📍At Ain Sokhna Port:
The Minister inspected the final preparations of the Energos Eskimo FSRU ahead of its transfer to SUMED Port. The vessel will receive imported LNG, regasify it, and inject the gas into Egypt’s national gas grid, helping to meet peak summer energy demands. This move is part of a comprehensive plan to maintain supply stability.
📍At Sonker Terminal:
Badawi continued his tour at the Sonker Terminal to follow up on infrastructure work for receiving the Energos Power, which is currently being outfitted at Dekheila Port. He monitored the installation of subsea and onshore pipelines that will deliver regasified LNG into the national grid.
🔹 The Minister emphasized a dual-track strategy:
- Boosting local production of oil and gas through accelerated exploration and development.
- Bridging the gap between production and demand via LNG imports using FSRUs as a transitional solution for supply reliability.
During the tour, the Minister praised the teams for executing critical infrastructure in record time and urged strict adherence to international safety and quality standards. He also stressed the importance of testing and certifying completed parts promptly to stay on schedule.
🔹 Accompanying the Minister were:
- Eng. Yassine Mohamed – CEO of EGAS
- Eng. Walid Lotfy – Chairman of Petrojet
- Eng. Wael Lotfy – Chairman of Enppi
- Eng. Yasser Salah – Chairman of GASCO
- Eng. Osama El-Samnoudi – VP of EGAS for Operations & Networks
