EGPC, Baker Hughes to Partner Bolster Safety and Sustainability in Oil Sector

Published on : 2025-05-15

In a significant move to enhance safety and environmental stewardship within the Egyptian petroleum sector, the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC) has inked a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with global energy technology company Baker Hughes. The MoU, signed by EGPC Chairman Salah Abdel Kerim and Baker Hughes Egypt General Manager Amro Ismail, will see the development of an integrated governance framework for health, occupational safety, and environmental protection (HSE).

Central to this collaboration is the implementation of a comprehensive training program focused on Leadership in Human and Organizational Performance (LHOP). This initiative aims to elevate human and organizational performance efficiency across EGPC operations. The LHOP program will encompass the effectiveness and security of all HSE practices, operational safety, and sustainability principles. Furthermore, it will incorporate a robust system for analyzing lessons learned from past incidents and proactively implementing measures to prevent future occurrences, mirroring best practices employed by leading international energy companies.

Abdel Kerim affirmed that the signing of the MoU comes within the framework of implementing the fifth pillar of the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources’ (MoPMR) strategy to support safety, provide a safe working environment, preserve and protect the environment, and ensure the safety and health of its employees and stakeholders, in accordance with laws, regulations, established professional practices, procedures, and approved local and international standards.

The training program aims to be a scientific and practical approach leading to understanding the underlying factors in operations management, analyzing work to identify potential hazards before accidents occur, promoting a safe work environment that encourages understanding, reporting, and immediate handling of errors and learning from them, and developing accident investigation skills using the tools within the LHOP program.
