GPC Achieves Milestone: Two Offshore Wells Add 1,000 Barrels Per Day
Published on : 2024-12-02
As part of an inspection visit to the Ras Ghareb petroleum region in the Red Sea Governorate, Eng. Karim Badawi, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, toured the operations of the MDC4 onshore drilling rig, operated by Advanced Energy Systems (ADES). The rig is currently drilling the developmental production well Gharib-277 for the General Petroleum Company (GPC).
During the visit, the Minister engaged with the drilling team, who confirmed that the well is scheduled to be brought into production within two weeks, with an anticipated output of 200 barrels per day. Eng. Badawi emphasized the importance of leveraging innovative technologies to accelerate drilling activities, optimize rig deployment, and manage petroleum reservoirs for maximum efficiency. He reiterated the Ministry’s and the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation’s (EGPC) unwavering support for increasing production while urging strict adherence to safety and health protocols to safeguard workers, the sector’s most valuable asset.
Offshore Achievements and Strategic Goals
Eng. Mohamed Abdel Mageed, Chairman of GPC, highlighted a major accomplishment: the commissioning of the new offshore production platform GG 83/3. This success follows the completion of the platform’s construction, production facilities, and pipeline connections to the nearest offshore hub. The platform’s first two wells have already been brought online, collectively adding 1,000 barrels of crude oil per day to GPC’s production.
Additionally, a third well is currently being drilled, with plans to add two more wells to the platform. Once fully operational, the platform’s output is projected to reach 2,200 barrels per day within the next three months. This achievement underscores GPC’s resilience and commitment to boosting production, driven by strategic planning and robust support from the Ministry of Petroleum and EGPC.
