Ras Badran Oil Production Surges to 7,500 boepd: Future Plans Target 10,000 boepd

Published on : 2024-12-02

Eng. Karim Badawi, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, accompanied by Eng. Mohamed Gibran, Minister of Labor, and senior petroleum sector officials, visited the SUCO (Suez Oil Company) site in Abu Rudeis. The visit highlighted the remarkable achievements at Ras Badran field, where production soared to 7,500 barrels of oil equivalent per day (boe/d) within three months of operations, compared to the initial baseline target of 3,100 boe/d for the year—a significant increase of 3,800 boe/d.

This success follows the activation of an agreement with ADES International (the contractor) on August 1, with drilling operations commencing on September 5. The achievement is credited to an advanced production strategy focusing on rapid successes and short-, medium-, and long-term initiatives.

Key steps driving the production increase included:

  • Well repairs: Replacing damaged pumps in non-operational wells, a critical factor in boosting output.
  • Perforation and non-rig treatments: Accelerating production rates without deploying a rig.
  • Testing the Matulla layer: Initial tests at well RB-A3b revealed promising results, adding 1,750 barrels of crude oil per day, expanding the field’s production capacity.
  • Development drilling plans: Efforts are underway to exploit the Matulla layer further, accompanied by exploratory drilling targeting the southwestern area of the field to unlock new production opportunities.

The company’s dedicated workforce and collaborative negotiations with ADES representatives were pivotal in achieving these milestones. Additional measures included intensifying operations and introducing a second offshore rig to work concurrently at Ras Badran.

The company aims to deploy an onshore rig at the Geisum field and a second offshore rig at Ras Badran to achieve a production target of 10,000 boe/d, more than three times the baseline target. These plans include tapping into the untapped reserves of the Nubia and Matulla layers, further enhancing the company’s productivity and sustainability over the long term.

This exceptional performance underscores the Ministry’s commitment to maximizing oil production and implementing forward-looking strategies to ensure sustainable growth.
