Egypt builds $600mln natural gas treatment plant in Western Desert

The Egyptian Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources is set to complete the construction of a natural gas treatment plant in the Western Desert, with investments reaching $600 million, according to a government official who spoke to Al Arabiya Business.

The plant is being developed within the Meleiha concession, managed by Agiba Petroleum Company. Construction is expected to wrap up in the first quarter of 2025, with trial operations slated for mid-2025.

The Petroleum Projects and Technical Consultations Company (PETROJET) is serving as the primary contractor for the project, while Schlumberger-SLB will handle specific engineering, design, and procurement tasks. Once operational, the plant's output will be integrated into the national power grid.
