Badawy Signs $222M Deal with Shell to Boost West Delta Gas Production

Engineer Kareem Badawy, the Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, met with Engineer Dalia Elgabry, Chairman of Shell Egypt, to discuss plans for new investments to enhance oil and natural gas production. The meeting reviewed Shell’s current projects in Egypt, future plans, and strategies to overcome challenges.
The discussion focused on the tenth and eleventh phases of the natural gas development project in the deep waters of the West Delta in the Mediterranean Sea. An agreement was signed between the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation, Shell, and Malaysia's Petronas to inject $222 million to implement the tenth phase, aiming to boost gas production rates. The deal includes drilling three gas production wells and establishing the necessary offshore facilities, with expected production rates between 150 and 200 million cubic feet by the year's end.
Minister Kareem Badawy emphasized the government’s and the petroleum sector’s commitment to working closely with Shell to support the partnership and increase gas production from the Mediterranean. Engineer Dalia Elgabry praised the significant investment opportunities in Egypt and stressed the importance of enhancing joint efforts to overcome challenges.
The signing ceremony was attended by Geologist Alaa El-Batal, CEO of the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation; Engineer Yas Mohamed, Chairman of the Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS); Dr. Samir Raslan, Undersecretary of the Ministry for Agreements and Exploration; and Engineer Ahmed Mostafa, Undersecretary of the Ministry for Production.
