Badawi Emphasizes Safety and Investment Growth During Zohr Field Inspection

Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Karim Badawi, stressed the critical importance of safety and the continuous improvement of safety standards during his inspection tour of the Zohr field in Port Said. He emphasized adherence to occupational safety and health standards, environmental protection, and achieving high rates of safe working hours.
Khaled Mowafi, Chairman of Belayim Petroleum Company (PETROBEL), reviewed the company's activities during the tour, showcasing it as a successful model of Egyptian-Italian energy cooperation. Since the partnership with Eni began, approximately $39 billion has been invested, with $13.5 billion specifically allocated to the Zohr field development. Ambitious plans are in place to pump even more investments.
Petrobel manages a vast array of assets across seven subsidiaries, overseeing concession areas in the Gulf of Suez, the Nile Delta, and the Mediterranean. The company currently operates around 1,500 gas and oil wells, producing approximately 530,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day (boe/d), including about 2.6 billion cubic feet of gas per day (bcf/d), 285 tons of butane per day, and about 69,000 bbl/d of oil and condensates.
Since its establishment, Petrobel's total production has reached about 7 billion boe, including 18.5 trillion cubic feet of gas, 3.2 billion barrels of oil and condensates, and 3.6 million tons of butane.
During the tour, Badawi emphasized the priority of establishing and maintaining a culture of safety among workers. He acknowledged the significant efforts behind achieving world records in this field, stressing the importance of teamwork, listening, and dialogue to turn challenges into opportunities and successes.
