Published on : 2024-05-13

The Center of Excellence for Energy Transition, affiliated with the oil and gas sector, has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Norwegian company Carbon Limits, which specializes in measuring and reducing methane emissions from the petroleum industry.

The MoU comes within the framework of the global trend towards preserving the environment, maximizing resources, and developing the energy transition strategy, in line with Egypt’s Vision 2030 and under the patronage of Tarek El Molla, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources.

The sealed MoU was signed Wael Lotfy Mostafa, Enppi’s Chairman & CEO; Hossam Asaad, Chairman & CEO of Egyptian Projects Operation & Maintenance (EPROM); and Benjamin Heras, Board Member from the Norwegian firm Carbon Limits and the company’s representative.

The MoU comes as a serious step towards advancing the petroleum sector’s energy transition ambitions, developing a low-carbon oil and gas strategy and establishing a framework for cooperation in reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

During the signing ceremony, Alaa Hagar, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources for the Minister’s Technical Office, confirmed that Egypt strongly supports cooperation with all partners from international institutions and companies that wish to implement activities and investments in the field of green energy and reducing emissions in a way that helps the success of the state’s strategies to be one of the most important markets in this field and a center for trading and trading energy in all its sources.

Regarding cooperation in the field of renewable energy, Hilde Klemetsdal, Norway’s Ambassador to Egypt and Libya, highlighted that Norway is proud to be part of this ambitious and pioneering project in Egypt and the region, noting that Norway has a proven track record in this field and long experience in developing and financing these projects.

It is worth noting that the Center of Excellence for Energy Transition, which was established in cooperation between Enppi and EPROM, is the first strategic entity specialized in serving the petroleum sector and energy-intensive sectors in Egypt and the African continent in promoting the transition to sustainable, low-carbon energy systems. This is one of the main elements of the petroleum sector’s strategy to achieve emissions reduction and energy transition.

The center provides innovative and modern energy efficiency services, theoretical and practical training, and spreading awareness within the oil and gas sector and other energy sectors in Egypt and in African countries.
