Shell Picks Atkins To Provide Technical Safety and Human Factors Services

Published on : 2020-02-22

Shell has awarded consulting company Atkins with a 5-year framework agreement to provide general and specialist technical safety and human factors engineering services to support Shell’s global projects and assets.

Work under this agreement will be delivered through and leverage the global capabilities of the company’s teams in the US, UK, and Australia.

The scope of work includes technical safety reviews such as hazard and operability studies and hazard identification; safety studies including quantitative risk assessments, escape and evacuation, “as low as reasonably practicable” principles, control of major accident hazards, and safety case development and support; and specialist work around major hazards, consequence modeling, and facility siting.

Atkins, a member of SNC-Lavalin Group, will also deliver a technical safety training program to Shell personnel as well as human factors engineering services.

“This framework agreement drives our new strategic direction and underscores our capabilities across engineering services,” said Craig Muir, president for resources at SNC-Lavalin. “We will deploy a range of in-house developed digital tools that help reduce costs and improve efficiency across Shell’s onshore and offshore assets, as well as deliver safety solutions to ensure optimal safety standards to employees and the environment.”

The framework agreement builds on work carried out by Atkins over the last 20 years for Shell, focusing on project and operational support to maintain Shell’s assets to the highest standards of safety and delivering engineering services to ensure that safety is managed effectively through all stages of an asset lifecycle.
